And if you don’t have one around the house, you can buy a pack of 16 from Tesco for just 29p. So if you only need one tablet to clean your iron, the following hack actually costs less than 2p to run.

So what is the method?

The clever hack was confirmed by countless cleaning fans on the Facebook page with cleaning tips and tricksand one mother who tried it herself said she never “believed” that something as simple as paracetamol would work wonders on her iron.

First you need to set your iron to the highest heat setting.

Then, hold the paracetamol tablet with tweezers and—without burning yourself—rub it across the hot metal surface of the iron.

You should see the burn marks slide off, and you can then wipe the iron clean once it’s cool enough to handle.

A post on Facebook applauding the hack read: “Who knew paracetamol could be used to clean an iron??!!

“Just use an uncoated acetaminophen tablet held in tweezers. Let the iron heat up and rub the paracetamol in circles, the burn marks will just wipe away!! I love this group!”

And in the post’s comments, others were just as stunned, with one saying, “Best hack ever, can’t believe how many products I tried before figuring this out – so satisfying how easy it just melts away!”

However, if you’re not convinced of the magic of acetaminophen, there are other hacks designed to get rid of burn marks — including using a baking soda and water mixture.

If you mix 2 tablespoons of baking soda and 1 tablespoon of water into a paste and spread it on the iron while it’s cool, you can apparently rub away the burn marks with a non-scratching cloth.

And you can even use sea salt.

Simply sprinkle salt on a clean, dry cotton cloth placed on your ironing board, then gently iron over the cloth several times until the stains come loose.
