The cost of living crisis is beginning to take hold. Grocery and energy bills are soaring, not even mentioning childcare costs.
Everyone is feeling the need right now and is looking for ways to save money.
I have to admit I had heard about the Too Good To Go app from a very good friend who often shared how she had snagged some amazing bargains at Starbucks, Costa and Morrisons. Hull Live reports.
For those who don’t know, the app allows people to buy groceries at a cheap price every day, preventing delicious fresh produce from being wasted in cafes, restaurants and shops just because they weren’t sold on time. You don’t know what you’re going to get, so it may be a gamble, but I was willing to put it to the test.
I had a long day at work and missed the opportunity to go to the supermarket for our weekly shopping to get my boys from school and kindergarten.
Rather than spend over £20 on a takeaway for the four of us and still get something to eat, I put my faith in ordering two Carvery Magic Bags from West Bulls Pub, part of the Stonehouse pizza and carvery company.

I placed our order – which totaled £6.58 – what a bargain?! – and my husband went at the given time slot to collect the bags.
When he got there he just had to show our order in the app and the bag was waiting for us.
When he got home and we opened the bag in front of us, I was blown away by the sheer amount of food.
We could easily have supported another family of four.
We had Yorkshire puddings, mashed potatoes and roasts, dozens of slices of tender roast beef, plenty of gravy, four huge sausages, stuffed meatballs and lots of fresh vegetables including carrots, peas, broccoli, corn and cabbage.

I plated for four – and there were plenty left. I wouldn’t be exaggerating if I said we could have supported two more adults and two more children.
And most importantly – the taste? It was delicious and it tasted very fresh and no different than if you were eating home cooked food.
My personal favorite was the roast beef and veggies (both cooked to perfection) while my husband and boys loved the sausages and Yorkshire puddings.
I knew it was good as the boys in the family were so full they couldn’t even finish dessert. In fact, my husband couldn’t eat anything until late afternoon the next day.
Will definitely use the app again when we fancy a treat and a bargain price.
I also liked that we stopped wasting food. I’m even considering getting a magic bag from Starbucks or Costa to pick me up from work in the afternoon.
