Mum shares ‘ingenious’ £2 hack to make your white clothes look new again
Scotland’s Ashley Baker shared the ‘ingenious’ hack to make your whites whiter on Facebook, and people across the country absolutely love it – and it’s cheap to try for yourself
The mum claims the cheap and cheerful hack has removed stains from her dingy whites – and the random product is available everywhere.
Scotland’s Ashley Baxter shared her clever tip on Facebook, where it was shared by other parents who vowed they’d try the quick and easy stain removal trick for themselves.
Ashley shared how she struggled with stains in the past but found the £2.35 solution used to sterilize baby bottles, Milton Sterilizing Fluid, made her whites shine positively.
She shared an anecdote about trying to get a stain out of her daughter’s school shirt but it didn’t work, so out of desperation she tried a cleaning tip she saw on a Mrs Hinch fan page — and it worked.

She wrote: “Okay I’m a little embarrassed to post this but!!
“When young children were exploring, seeing food spills, paint, etc., I saw a tip on Ms. Hinch’s page about Milton sterilant fluid (Ms. H. didn’t do this, I tried it after seeing it on a fansite had it remove stains).”
Luckily, Ashley already had some on hand and decided to give it a try – the product is actually a mild form of bleach, which is why it seems to work so well.
The mother posted before and after pictures where the shirt is visibly much whiter, which saved her a lot of money for a new school shirt.
Ashley added: “I’m going to put on all her shirts and white tops now.
“Although it didn’t remove the permanent marker, it will be fine under a dress.”
After trying and testing the tip herself, it was shared over 15,000 times on social media – and people were quick to ask about the method behind the madness.
Ashley later updated her post with more details, writing, “1 part Milton 3 parts water in a large mixing bowl of boiling water.
“Soak for 2 hours, then wash with white laundry.”
The tip is simple but very effective, and people praised the cleaning method after trying it for themselves.
One person commented: “I do this with my shower curtain too. It is wonderful.”
Another was keen to try the hack, writing, “I’m going to buy a bottle of this stuff!”
At just £2.35 it’s worth a try if you want your clothes to shine again and are struggling to get dirty stains out of your precious whites.
