A mum has expressed her anger after her children became “disgusted” by an Easter egg covered in green and gray furry mold.

Louis McGregor has complained to Sainsbury’s, where she bought the egg for £3.60.

Mrs McGregor from Brockworth in Gloucestershire bought two eggs two weeks ago ready for a big Easter egg hunt for her two daughters. Gloucestershire Live Reports.

She had traveled to a Sainsbury’s supermarket in Cheltenham to get the eggs extra as her local store didn’t have any.

Ms McGregor then stored The Yolkers’ eggs in a cupboard, ready for this weekend’s Easter celebrations.

She described her young daughter’s shock when she opened the box and expected something delicious Easter indulge only to be greeted with moldy chocolate.

Ms McGregor said: “I bought them from the two weeks ago Cheltenham Business. They didn’t have them at my local Barnwood store so they traveled to get them.

“Opened this morning (April 18) after the Easter egg hunt and my daughter found this! I bought two for my daughters – Hattie, 7, and Flossie, 3.

“They were so disappointed! And disgusted!”

She continued: “I contacted Sainsbury’s straight away and they said they would send me a £10 gift card.

“They said they would only refund the moldy one…I said, ‘Do you expect my daughters to eat the other one?’ They said they understood my disappointment – but I’m pretty sure they didn’t.”

Ms McGregor explained that the gift card costs £10, £3.50 refund and £6.50 goodwill. She said she thought the gesture was “a joke” from “such a big, well-respected company”.

A Sainsbury’s spokesman said: “Cases like this are extremely rare and we have apologized to Ms McGregor for her experience. We offered her a £10 gift card in the form of a refund and a goodwill gesture for her items.”
