Johann van Graan will have another familiar face at Bath next season as Munster flanker Christ Cloete makes the move to the English Premier League.
The 31-year-old South African-born, Irish-qualified openside has made 62 appearances for the province since joining in 2017 but with a string of strong backlines created by the local system his options are limited and he will move on.
Cloete was recruited as a ‘project player’ in 2017 but despite qualifying for Ireland as a residency in 2020 he never made the step up to international rugby.
The ball-strong former flanker of the Southern Kings was an important squad player.
Van Graan will join Bath at the end of this season and will be joined by defense coach JP Ferreira.
Munster is yet to announce his new coaching ticket but it is widely expected that forward coach Graham Rowntree will be the main man next year.
Munster is unlikely to replace Cloete as John Hodnett and Alex Kendellen are among the young guns to impress in the position.
“Playing in the Premiership has always been a clear goal and I look forward to making a significant contribution as Bath moves to the top of the league,” Cloete said in a statement from Bath.
“It’s a fantastic club with a great history and the fans deserve nothing less than a successful team.”
