Murder suspect prison officer ‘dies after shooting himself when caught’

Prison chief Vicky White, who escaped from the Lauderdale County jail in Alabama with murder suspect Casey White, has died in hospital after shooting herself when the two were found in Indiana, reports say

An American prison boss who pulled her murderous, 6-foot-tall lover out of prison on her retirement day to go on the run has died in hospital after shooting herself.
Vicky White and Casey Cole White – no relationship – were caught in Indiana after a car chase that ended in an accident on Monday.
The deputy warden shot herself after being found by Evansville police.
Vanderburgh County Sheriff Dave Wedding reportedly said Vicky White was taken to the hospital but died of her injuries Monday night.
“The Vanderburgh County Coroner’s Office, the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office and the US Marshals Service are investigating the death of Vicky White, a fugitive from Alabama,” said Steve Lockyear, Vanderburgh coroner.
She died at Deaconess Hospital just after 7 p.m. and an autopsy was scheduled for Tuesday, she said FoxNews.
The couple have been on the run since escaping from the Lauderdale County jail in Alabama on April 29.
The couple had become secret lovers before she gave the murder suspect a sham date to get him out of jail.
The lovers led the FBI on a week-long manhunt, traveling through three states.
Vicky, 56, was caught on surveillance video holding the door open for a handcuffed white man, 38, with a second angle showing them getting into a marked squad car and driving away.
The sheriff’s cruiser seen in the surveillance video was found in the parking lot of a local mall.
It was later revealed that she had secretly purchased a used car in which to flee, but that was later found abandoned in Tennessee.
Vicky White was taken to a hospital for treatment. Sheriff Rick Singleton said he wasn’t sure if the wounds were from the wreck or not.
Sheriff Singleton said confessed killer White would be “returned” to his prison in Florence, Alabama.
He said, “He’s not getting out of this prison.”
Vicky White, who is due to retire the day after she disappeared after 25 years, had first met Casey in 2020.
He had been brought to Lauderdale County for questioning after writing a letter confessing to the 2015 murder of Connie Ridgeway.
The 59-year-old was found stabbed to death in her home at the Meadowland Apartments in Rogersville, Alabama.
White said he was a hired killer but pleaded not guilty to insanity when charged with murder.
He was already serving a 75-year sentence in December 2015 for a late-night crime spree.
His night of frights included a burglary, two theft cars, and multiple shootings in northern Alabama and southern Tennessee.
The Spree left behind an injured woman and a dead dog.
