Cork-born folk artist Clare Sands, sixth-generation violinist, bilingual singer and multi-instrumentalist, has now released a new self-titled album and is touring Ireland, the UK and Germany throughout October and November.
BOOK: How to kill your family
i love reading I’m doing a reading competition with my family right now – we have to read 30 different books in 30 different genres, from children’s books to romance (my dad doesn’t like the last category).
Strangely, I just finished How to kill your family by Bella Mackie. It was an exciting read, dark and intelligent. I highly recommend it. Other must-reads included Matt Haig’s The Midnight Library — and all by Colum McCann.
TV: Peaky Blinders
I just started Peaky Blinders – late to the party, I know, but I love the shooting, the costumes, and the soundtrack. The music is so brilliant and impressive. sopranos-esque, one might say.
Speaking of which, I’ll enjoy watching it again The sopranos for the third time after this year’s tour. I also checked out Al Pacinos fragrance of a woman recently – this man can do no wrong.
PODCAST: Beo Ar Eigean
I am in love Beo Ar Eigeanin the three mighty mná [Siún Ní Dhuinn, Sinead Ní Uallacháin, and Áine Ní Bhreaslai] have the craic, all as gaeilge.
I really am into Robert Plant’s dig deep podcast too. As far as radio goes, I don’t think you can top Fiachna Ó Braonáin late date on RTÉ Radio 1, with its deep, melodic, soothing tones. I’m excited to have this voice feature on my new album.
MUSIC: Soda Blonde
Musically, I’m really enjoying Soda Blonde at the moment, having seen her the other day when we were all filming a new series for TG4.
GIG: Brian Finnegan
I look forward to seeing [flute and whistle player] Brian Finnegan at the Duncairn in Belfast on December 10th. He’s an outstanding artist. His LP hunger of the skin of the last year is such a special listening.
Then, after Christmas, I will venture to distant shores to embrace other cultures and music with open arms.
