Mr. Chong told 9News He was very lucky as he only suffered a few scratches.

“Wow, literally less than two feet and I probably wouldn’t be standing here.”

Mr. Chong also thanked the people who rushed to his aid in the aftermath.

“I got out on the passenger side, people had to pull me out. Everyone was very nice,” he said.

Witnesses to the incident shared footage online with some jokingly suggesting that Mr Chong should buy a lottery ticket to take advantage of his luck.

A witness, Yianni Zinonos, shared a series of videos on social media.

“It’s just unbelievable that the guy is doing well,” he wrote.

“It’s an amazing sight, a whole tree fell on this car on the corner of Redfern Street and Chalmers Street.”

A City of Sydney spokesman said the tree was removed after the accident and the council is monitoring the remaining trees.

“The City of Sydney arborist was on site within 20 minutes to assist the emergency services in cleaning and removing the tree.

“The tree was safely removed and the road reopened within an hour of the incident.

“The city’s arborist hired a qualified arborist to conduct a visual inspection of the park trees along Redfern Street.

“No other issues have been identified – the trees will continue to be monitored.”
