“My doctor told me to be quiet during labor – it was so rude”

One woman said she was told by doctors during the birth to “keep calm” and now her followers on social media are praising her for keeping her cool

A woman was offended during labor when her doctor told her to “be quiet” because she was making too much noise during labor.

Yasmyn Switzer, 20, a mother of three, shared her story on TikTok, explaining that she thought the doctor was incredibly rude and inconsiderate.

She said that when she was giving birth to her third child, she made noises during labor and was told to keep the volume down so the doctor could “hear.”

Sharing her story with her followers online, Yasmyn soon racked up over 230,000 views and was inundated with comments – many praising her for keeping her cool.

Heading to TikTok where she uploads as @yasmynswitzerYasmyn said: “I was super nice, even in childbirth I’m not the type to curse the doctors or be confrontational.

“My waters broke, I thought it ruptured about 10 minutes before, so I was in the active pushing part for about 10 minutes.

“The doctor came just after my waters broke and I didn’t want to scream or really be that loud while pushing but kind of moaned when I push my daughter out and I listen to my body.

“In the middle of my contractions, when I push them out and make noise, the doctor says, ‘You have to be quiet so I can hear.’

“It was so rude, I saw this doctor a lot during my pregnancies and she always didn’t have the best bedside manners.

“After that, I passed out for a minute … I was pretty pissed about the whole experience.”

Yasmyn said her daughter was safely delivered, but she remained upset about the experience, and after sharing her story on TikTok, others could see why she was angry.

One said: “Complain!”

And another wrote: “My doctor and nurses kept yelling they were like ‘LOUDDER get angry – it will help you push’. You were great. I’m sorry you went through that.”

Then a third added: “What does she need to ‘hear’. This story makes me angry. I’m sorry this is your experience.”
