The artist and legendary musician with the Parliament-Funkadelic collective discusses the work of Lauren Halsey.

My title is George Clinton, and I’m an artist. [MUSIC] “We wish the funk. Surrender the funk.” [PIANO MUSIC PLAYING] Proper now, the work that’s at the moment obtained me being attentive to it’s Lauren Halsey from South Central Los Angeles. 2018 is once I noticed it on the Hammer. [SLIDES CLICKING] She say her life was influenced by P-Funk. And her work is a takeoff from ‘Trombipulation,” one in every of our albums, theories that now we have, Cro-Nasal Sapiens, aliens from the previous and the long run, and Black folks. [SLIDES CLICKING] I’m studying that every one of that known as Afro-futurism these days. To me, it was simply funking round. And that, to me, is what obtained me into artwork within the first place — my very own album covers. I didn’t do them, however Pedro Bell and Overton Lloyd, guys that was doing the covers, it’s just like the backdrop for our tradition now.
