A mother-to-be is facing this exact dilemma while preparing for the birth of her daughter.
Although she has put together a long list of names, her husband is only given one specific name and she has many worries about that.
Unfortunately, when paired with their last name, this worried mother fears her daughter might end up with some cruel nicknames while she’s at school.

Taken to Reddit, The mother admits that her husband’s last name – which is Man – “makes every name sound like a lame superhero”.
While she’s considered a number of names – including Scarlett, Harper, Poppy and Luna – she believes all of these names are “silly” when paired with the surname Man.
Disappointingly, her husband has his heart set on a particular name, and she fears that this sounds like the most superhero of them all, and not in a good way.
Reaching out to others for advice, the woman – whose username is u/Cool-Number-6942 – wrote: “My husband only likes one name but I’m a little apprehensive because it’s ‘Ellie’ I worry that she might be bullied by kids calling her ‘Smellie Man'”.
She continued: “My friend suggested ‘Michelle’ and then Ellie could be her nickname. I’m looking for more hints about Ellie’s nickname or even names that fit her last name. my husband without sounding like a lame superhero.”
Explaining why she didn’t give her baby her last name, the mother-to-be explained that her last name was Ho, which she believed was “no better than ‘Man'”.
In the comments section, she shared how she was bullied as a child due to her last name, which is completely understandable why she cares so much about her kids.
Considering other parents’ decisions to hyphenate their last names into one, she noted that this would be “even worse” in their case, leaving them with “Man-Ho or Ho”. -Man”.
Many people offered advice to the poster, with one suggesting she “could come up with a new last name for all of you, with your husband?”
Another advised giving their daughter a longer name, such as Elizabeth, which would “get attention” while giving her a variety of nicknames to choose from.
