If you have a yard with a lawn, you know all about the importance of keeping track of your mowing—whether you’re happy to do it yourself or pay someone else to do it.
But one man on Reddit was left confused after his neighbor demanded he allow her son to mow his lawn for him, even after telling the family he was more than capable of doing it himself.
The US man explained that his neighbor’s son was charging $15 a week for the service, and the man had no interest in paying if he didn’t need it.
However, the offer’s refusal has apparently angered the man’s neighbors, as he is now accused of making the boy’s “life” more difficult by not paying for his services.

in the his postsaid the man, “I mow my own lawn, I always do. A neighborhood kid came to my door last week and asked if I’d like him to cut it for me once a week for $15 each.
“I said no. My garden isn’t big and it might take me 45 minutes if I’m really thorough. Otherwise I can do it in half an hour.
“Well the neighbors kid left and life went on. Then, on Sunday, his mother came to my door and again offered the services to her son. I said thanks but no thanks.
“She went on to explain that he is already doing her garden, my neighbor (the house between us) and my neighbor on the other side. She said it would be easier for him to do two yards instead of just crossing all four yards, turning off the lawnmower and doing the other house. I just shrugged and said “sorry but I’m fine”.
“Today my next door neighbor brought it up and said, ‘He’s a kid trying to make some extra money, help him out and not make his life any harder. It’s only $15 a week’.
“The thing is, that’s $15 I don’t want to spend when I can easily make it myself.”
Commenters on the Reddit post were equally stunned, with many people questioning why the man’s neighbors wouldn’t just take no for an answer.
One person said: “You shouldn’t have to pay for something you don’t want. You have to respect other people’s lives and choices.”
While another wrote: “Admittedly I’m a sucker for neighborhood kids who are looking for odd jobs and usually do them a favour.
And a third added: “They’re basically asking you to give $60 (£48) a month to a job you want a kid to do themselves for pocket money. He can easily go to the nearest house and ask or give up flyers in the neighborhood who offer the mowing service.”
