A neighbor allegedly brought bags of rubbish to a block of flats and ate leftover food before leaving the rubbish strewn in the hallway.

Images appear to show stacks of food containers, rotting fruit and vegetables along with other rubbish on the floor of a Sheffield apartment block.

Local residents are also upset at the way they claim local authorities have done nothing to address the problem that has persisted for more than a year.

An attempt is also said to have been made to confront the person responsible, but he becomes aggressive.

A neighbor said the situation was dangerous to the health of both the man and everyone else in the block.

Sheffield City Council has reportedly said it is now investigating the case

There is concern that litter lying around could attract rats and other vermin.

A local resident tells The star : “At this point in time, no authority seems willing to take responsibility for a clear threat to its own health and that of local residents.

“He often regurgitates what he has swallowed, which is then left in the foyers of the apartments along with the scattered contents of garbage bags for residents to clean up the next morning. Someone has to be responsible for this situation. Does someone have to die before these agencies act?”

“We are beyond belief that this issue has been abandoned for so long and that there appears to be no authority taking responsibility for it. We know that mental health and social services are overwhelmed in Sheffield, but are we as a society seriously reduced to ignoring the dangerous behavior of a clearly challenged young man eating discarded food out of bins?

Sheffield City Council housing director Janet Sharpe has reportedly said the situation is now being addressed.

She said: “We understand residents’ concerns and it is clear that this situation needs to be resolved. We are concerned for the wellbeing of this young man and would like to reassure those in the area that we are taking action on the issues they have described.”

The Mirror has reached out to Sheffield City Council for comment.
