When it comes to our friends and family, many of us are willing to do anything for them Love, even if it means making sacrifices.

A woman recently shared how she gave up her own time for seven years to help her sister take care of their two children – since her brother-in-law is of little help.

However, she claims that she just landed an exciting promotion at work that would make her unavailable to offer her free babysitting services all the time.

The anonymous woman revealed this in a letter Slate.com’s Agony Aunt Dear Prudence, explains that her sister wasn’t exactly in a congratulatory mood when she found out about the new position.

Her letter to Prudence referred to her sister’s husband as “the biggest man-baby in the world.”

She said: “I’m happily single while my sister is married to the tallest man-baby in the world. Thinking putting a dirty dish in the sink is worth a parade and being a good parent tells my sister the baby is crying before getting back to his video game. Both work full time, but my sister takes care of the kids, house and dogs, and she constantly relies on me to help her (while complaining about her husband’s refusal).

“I watch and raise my little nieces since they were born when my sister couldn’t. I love them more than anything – but I’ve been waiting for them to grow old enough so my sister doesn’t have to pay for an expensive baby I’m tired of picking them up from school and looking after them five days a week, when my sister works at the weekend while my brother-in-law goes camping with his friends.”

The woman claims her sister thought about getting a divorce for years but ultimately never did – the siblings fought over it and it never ended well.

She goes on to tell how she applied for a promotion that required her to move quite a distance from her sister and she got the job.

“It’s a big step in my career,” the woman admits. “When I took my sister out to a celebratory lunch, she got angry when I told her about the move. She said I couldn’t leave her alone now. She was pregnant again and needed me. I told her that was the most selfish and egocentric thing she could possibly tell me. Did she really expect me to live my whole life around her and her friggin’ failures of a husband?”

Her sister reportedly told her to “shut up” and “insulted” her. The couple argued some more before the pregnant woman stormed out.

They haven’t spoken since and the woman is “incredibly frustrated” that her sister couldn’t even be happy for her after giving up seven years of her life to help look after the children.

In response to the letter, R. Eric Thomas offered advice as Prudence, explaining to the woman that it sounds like there was a communication problem with her sister and that she needed to celebrate herself.

“None of you are wrong per se, but you have the right to redefine whatever you want. It’s possible that your sister is jealous of the freedom you have, perhaps your ability to make better life choices. It’s also possible that she’s freaked out by the logistical challenge of looking after her kids without you. That’s all reasonable, but that doesn’t mean you can’t move to take on this new job.”

They add that some time apart will be good for both of them and that it will give the sister a chance to see her as a person with her own life – not just as a babysitter who is always available to her.
