Followers had been shocked when the characters – performed by Jenny Agutter, 69, and Stephen McCann, 59, respectively – had been seen mendacity injured and unconscious because the credit rolled.

The present’s creator and head author Heidi Thomas, 59 – who’s married to McCann – described herself as a “very daring girl” when requested if she would “dare” kill them off.
It is understood that Thomas usually ends odd-numbered series with a death – with the upcoming episode set to conclude the eleventh sequence of Name the Midwife.
