Naomi Osaka has revealed that she speaks to a therapist afterwards burst into tears when called by a spectator in Indian Wells champion earlier this month.

the tennis star complained to the referee after a man was heard screaming “Naomi, you shit” during her second-round match against Veronika Kudermetova in California. She was seen in tears during a change of sides as she struggled to hide her feelings and lost the match.

She is back in action at Open Miami this week after receiving a wildcard to perform at both events in the States after falling down the leaderboard due to inactivity. She moved out of the last year French Open after revealing she was suffering from depression and also missing Wimbledon in summer.

Osaka returned to attend the Olympic Games in Tokyo and also traveled to New York for the US Open End of August. However, after her third-round loss to Leylah Fernandez, she announced another break from the sport.

Speaking to the media after her first-round win over Astra Sharma in Miami, the 24-year-old revealed she has now sought professional help. “I don’t know if I’m allowed to say this, but after Indian Wells I finally started talking to a therapist,” she said. “It only took about a year after the French Open.

“She was telling me strategies and stuff like that. I know how helpful it is. I’m glad I have people around me who told me to go in that direction. But yeah, I basically just remembered all the things she told me to just take a deep breath and back off if I need to.”

When asked why she decided to seek help, Osaka replied, “Honestly, because my sister seemed kind of very worried about me. I do not know. Like I feel like I’ve tried a lot of different things because I tend to internalize things and I also want to do everything myself.”

Osaka got off to a strong start to their Miami Open campaign after dropping just five games after that win over Sharma and earning a resounding win over 13th seed Angelique Kerber.

Osaka’s third-round tie will be played against another giant after Karolina Muchova shocked Osaka’s US Open winner Fernandez. The Canadian teenager was eventually beaten by the British sensation Emma Raducanu in the final at Flushing Meadows.

The 24-year-old was delighted with her win over Kerber, telling the crowd at Hard Rock Stadium: “She’s the highest-seeded player I’ve beaten this season and I’m really happy to keep playing, and I always will.” better.”
