LEO OSTIGARD has completed a permanent move to Serie A club Napoli for unknown terms, pending international clearance.
The Norway international impressed in Italy in the second half of last season while on loan at Genoa, which sparked interest from Napoli.
Technical director David Weir said: “Leo has had really successful loan spells in Germany, Italy and here in the UK at the Championships with Coventry City and Stoke City so it came as no surprise that he’d attracted such keen interest from a top Italian club like Napoli bumped.
“He also wants to play senior football regularly and establish himself as a regular player. We couldn’t guarantee Leo that, so the transfer is good for both clubs and the player.
“It’s a testament to the academy, the club’s development program and loan system, and Leo in equal measure. He worked very hard and was a total professional in his approach and attitude.
“This transfer is a direct result of that commitment and professionalism on the training ground, in everyday life and in games. On behalf of the club, I wish him all the best for his future career and for the coming season.”
Leo will have Champions League football prospects with Napoli this season after the club finished third in Serie A behind AC Milan and Inter.
Leo joined Albion in August 2018 from Norwegian elite series club Molde FK. He spent the 2019/20 season on loan at German second division club St Pauli and after an impressive stint there with a season at Championship side Coventry.
He made his first international call-up to Norway’s senior team in September 2020 and has made five appearances for his country.
Last season he spent the first half of the season on loan at Stoke before moving to Genoa in January.
