One of the unlikely feuds in showbiz occurred between an EastEnders legend and a much-loved TV presenter.

No one would have expected that Natalie Cassidy and Denise Van Outen had started an argument that really divided the public.

Natalie, who has been playing the role of Sonia Fowler since 1993 and has recently spoken out about some of her co-stars being criticized, criticized Denise for going back to work too soon after giving birth.

In May 2010, Denise gave birth to Betsy, whose father is Any Dream Will Do winner Lee Mead, she later revealed she was hiring a full-time nanny to take care of her daughter so she could return to the West End stage.

Just days after Denise announced she would return to her job, Natalie said: “Denise van Outen returned to work in two weeks because she said she needed to feel normal again.

“I just thought, ‘What’s the point of having a child? Having a child is your job’.”

Denise remained silent about the harsh comments at the time, but the former Big Breakfast presenter would single out Natalie for being ‘hypocritical’ just a few months later.

In November of that year, Natalie, she appeared on ITV’s Lorraine just six weeks after giving birth to daughter Eliza.

While bottle-feeding a newborn, the EastEnders actress spoke to Lorraine Kelly about being a new mom before promoting her new reality TV show, Natalie Cassidy: Becoming Mum.

The E4 program followed Natalie during her pregnancy to give birth to Eliza and deal with becoming a new mother.

Natalie admitted that she didn’t want to be on a reality show at first but she was tempted by money.

Angry Denise hit back at the EastEnders star in a series of outraged tweets in which she accused her opponent of being a hypocrite.

Denise wrote: “Natalie Cassidy criticized me for going back to work after having Betsy. Currently Natalie is on the show Lorraine promoting her new pregnancy/motherhood reality show. isn’t it a job?????

Then she added, “She said she did the show for the money, so yeah, it’s work. Pot is calling!!!!”

Continuing her words, Denise later pointed out that she had made a family photo that was made public to raise funds for Great Ormond Street Hospital.

Turning back to Natalie, Denise added: “She did a family shoot and put the money in her pocket.”

Denise then mentioned Natalie’s character Sonia, the famous trumpet player, by tweeting: “She can plug her trumpet where the sun doesn’t shine… hee hee!!!”

Several of the replies came out in defense of Natalie, with one suggesting she could spend time with her children rather than arguing on Twitter.

However, Denise jokingly responded: “I haven’t said a word! Betsy has her hand on my Twitter. She’s a kid genius.”

After a few hours of silence, Denise turned to defend herself again when someone pointed out that she had left Betsy behind when she spent a week in Peru hiking through the Andes.

The Twitter user wrote: “Huge difference with someone having a camera tracking them around while they’re with their baby and someone abandoning their baby.”

Defending herself, Denie said: “I was away for 7 days. Betsy’s father and mother took care of her in my absence. BTW – we raised a financial sum for Cancer care. Breast.”

At the time, a spokeswoman for Natalie said: “We don’t want to respond to Denise’s disparaging tweets.”

But a few days later, Natalie tried to spread the word about parenting by emphasizing that she had ‘old-fashioned’ views on motherhood.

EastEnder insists she didn’t mean such criticism but has hit back at some of the claims Denise has made about her.

Natalie told Now magazine: “I’ve never criticized anyone. It’s up to the woman to want to go back to work – it’s a personal decision.

“But I’m old-fashioned. I can’t have a job that forces me to be away from my kids all day. That’s not me. My reality shoot was filmed and I was on Lorraine Kelly’s show with my kids. “

She also responded to comments Denise had made about selling photos of her children and said she needed the money.

Natalie explains: “It was great for Denise that she donated the money for their first family photo to charity.

“Adam and I really want the money to give away. I hope when I’m her age and more financially secure, I’ll be able to do so.”
