England netball captain Natalie Metcalf is ready to take on New Zealand after her side continued their unbeaten start to the Commonwealth Games with a 56-35 win over Uganda.

The reigning Commonwealth champions now have four wins from four games and will take on the Kiwis in their final Pool B game after a tricky tie against Uganda on Tuesday.

Although it was 25-15 in favor of England at half-time, the Roses benefited from some fresh faces after the break and were able to extend their lead to 40-24 with an impressive performance in the third quarter.

They then went on to wrap up the game comfortably, with Metcalf admitting the rotation had a big impact.

She said: “For us it’s all about coming out after half-time and getting back into the swing of things, so it’s credit to the coaches for getting all 12 players back on the pitch and using the rotation.

“In the netball tournament I think you have to be able to use your whole squad so thanks to the girls, I thought they really persevered and did well today.

“We want to keep building from game to game. It’s tournament netball, anyone can beat anyone at their best day, so it’s really important for us that we treat every game with the same attitude, focus on one game at a time, focus on the process and try, too to enjoy.

“It’s half done, it flies so fast! We have to be able to enjoy it, seize the moment, seize the opportunity and make the most of it.”

England meet world champions New Zealand on Thursday and there is history between the sides after the Kiwis knocked the Roses out of the World Cup in the 2019 semi-finals before beating Australia in the final.

Metcalf added: “They are (New Zealand) world champions, they are such a strong team and they also have so many rotations in their squad so we definitely need to look at their games and see how they are doing in the tournament.

“I think it’s going to be a really tough game but we’re definitely ready for it.”
