National Highways advises drivers traveling during a heat wave

National Highways advises motorists and their passengers to prepare well for trips scheduled for this weekend and early next week extreme heat.

National Highways welcomes everyone who walks its streets during the heat wave taking extra precautions to stay safe and healthy.

Among his tips for driving in summer, National Highways says, in particularly hot weather, make sure your engine stays within its normal operating temperature range. However, if it starts to overheat, find a safe place to stop and let it cool down.

Other tips for drivers include:

  • Bring a bottle of water with you before heading out to ensure you stay hydrated

  • Check travel conditions before you set off and, where safe to do so, during the trip

Mel Clarke, Operations Director at National Highwayssaid: “It is crucial for everyone to plan their trip in advance so that they are better prepared for the trip hot weather.

“Simple steps like carrying bottles of drinking water are really important to keep you and your passengers hydrated, as well as checking your vehicle before you drive, including tire, oil and coolant levels.”
