NATO could face nuclear war with ‘out of joint’ Vladimir Putin, ex-CIA agent says – World News

Former CIA agent Robert Baer believes NATO is headed for an outright war with “disengaged” Vladimir Putin, and he says it’s “everyone’s guess” if that will go nuclear

A former CIA agent claims the West is headed for a direct war with “mad” Vladimir Putin, which could well turn nuclear.

Robert Baer believes the situation “is likely to get a lot worse” as Putin pursues “Russian fascism” and that no one predicted the extent to which he would leave.

The former CIA case officer, who discusses the Putin threat in his new book The Fourth Man, said that in light of the Russian invasion of Crimea and then the attack on Ukraine that began on February 24, the US was stayed on the wrong foot .

He told that To express : “What we have today is worse than anything during the Cold War.

“There is no question that the West had to support Ukraine, but at the same time we are approaching a direct conflict between NATO and Russia.

“Whether it will go nuclear or not is unclear.”

He added: “Everyone knew of Putin’s alleged quest for God and his turn to what can be called Russian fascism, but then again, no one predicted that his delusions would lead to open land warfare and genocide.

“If Putin really is as messed up as he seems, things are likely to get a lot worse.”

Mr. Baer is also not sure if there is any truth about whether Putin has cancer or any other disease.

Many reports have referred to Putin looking bloated in the face in recent months, which could indicate he was on steroids.

At Russia’s Victory Day parade last month, Putin looked frail and used a blanket to keep warm, in stark contrast to the macho image he’d cultivated in the past.

Mr Baer said: “As for Putin’s health, I will comment no more than to say that during my time at the CIA I listened to our doctors predicting the deaths of various tyrants, but in the end when they finally died, the timing was surprising.”

The former CIA agent believes it is a mistake for the West to underestimate Russia after the end of the Cold War.

“After the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991, the CIA viewed the KGB as a defeated force and all but stopped spying on them,” Mr. Baer said.

“It turned out to be a serious mistake because the KGB planned its return in the ’90s and infiltrated wherever it was needed.”

He believes that Russian espionage agents working in the US were also successful in ensuring that the West overlooked what was happening.

“KGB moles in America have also done tremendous damage, worse than the Cambridge Five,” he said.

No wonder the CIA missed the KGB hardliners behind Putin and their plans to turn back the clock to reintegrate Ukraine into the Russian Empire.

“By the way, the more I learn about Putin’s rise to power, the more I believe he was the frontman of a silent KGB coup rather than a mistake by Yeltsin.”

The infiltration has blunted the United States’ ability to predict Putin’s movements, Mr Baer claimed.

He said: “The immediate impact of the CIA’s failure to keep Russia on the pulse is that it has failed to connect the dots, namely Putin’s takeover of Crimea in 2014 with his decision to go to Ukraine this February to invade.

“Not really understanding Putin’s ambitions and then not responding decisively to Crimea is tantamount to President Obama and Europe’s Munich.

“As for Trump, Putin was all the more heartened that Trump never stopped talking about leaving NATO. Not to mention that Putin thought the US was being run by an illiterate, nativist fool who managed to bring the United States back to isolationism.”
