NAUGHTY Dog’s next game will be “built more like a TV show,” according to studio co-president Neil Druckmann.
Naughty Dog is one of the most popular gaming studios with historical games like Crash Bandicoot and Jack & Daxter as well as newer blockbuster titles like Uncharted and The Last of Us.
Uncharted was recently adapted into a Hollywood movie starring Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg, and the HBO TV adaptation of The Last of Us will be released very soon.
It seems that the studio’s flirtation with live-action influenced Druckmann’s own approach to writing.
In a new interview with The New YorkerDruckmann has explained that Naughty Dog’s next game will be “built more like a TV show” and written by a congregated writers’ room.
Druckmann has also reportedly told a cinematographer from HBO’s The Last of Us that she could work on Naughty Dog games in the future if she prefers.
The Last of Us Part II has been hailed as a revelation in terms of video game animation and performance, creating a more realistic and believable world than most games can achieve.
With its lengthy narrative cutscenes, it’s not surprising that Druckmann could take notes from television and movies for the future of both franchises.
Naughty Dog is currently working on an upcoming multiplayer game set in The Last of Us universe, in addition to a new title that is rumored to be an entry in the Uncharted series.
