Nearly 5,000 injured during Astroworld music festival tragedy, new files claim

Nearly 5,000 people were injured in some way during a crowd at the Astroworld music festival in Texas that left 10 dead, new files say.

The figures were provided by lawyers representing victims of the incident, which took place in November.

The tragedy happened during rapper Travis Scott’s headline performance.

Scott continued playing during the incident and later said he wasn’t aware of fans being injured in the scrum.

Documents filed Monday and obtained by the PA news agency listed a total of 4,932 alleged victims.

In addition to 10 deaths, 732 claims were filed by people who sustained physical injuries and required “comprehensive medical treatment,” according to the new documents.

Claims were made by 1,649 who sustained injuries but required less extensive care, and a further 2,540 were listed as ‘other’, meaning the extent of their injuries was still being assessed.

“As of May 9, 2022, based on information and belief, the following claims have been filed as a result of death, injury and damage sustained at the Astroworld Festival on November 5, 2021,” the documents read before the numbers are listed.

“Plaintiffs will continue to evaluate and update this for the court as additional information and details are received and reviewed.”

Hundreds of individual lawsuits were previously consolidated into a single lawsuit in January after the Texas Judicial Panel On Multidistrict Litigation granted a motion.

It comes ahead of Scott’s first live performance since the event, which is scheduled to take place at Sunday’s Billboard Music Awards. Nearly 5,000 injured during Astroworld music festival tragedy, new files claim
