Neighborhood is definitely coming to an end after 37 years on screen, with bosses confirming when they will stop making Aussie soaps.
Apologizing to fans, a spokesperson wrote on the show’s official Twitter account: “We regret to say that after nearly 37 years and nearly 9000 episodes aired, we must confirm that Neighbors will be production ceased in June.
“After losing our key broadcast partner in the UK and despite having sought numerous alternative funding sources, we simply had no choice but to pause the programme.
“For our amazing, loyal fans, we know this is a huge disappointment for all of us on the team. We thank you for all of your messages and support. you guys and promise to end the show in incredible form. From here on, we’re celebrating Neighbors.”
The die-hard fans quickly began sharing their memories of the Aussie soap.
One replied: “Watched Neighbours as a kid after school in London and promised myself that one day I would move to Australia… been in Sydney for 20 years now! Sad to see you out Go.”
A second sounded: “Also here, I moved from London to Brisbane after Neighborhood made me fall in love with Australia!”
While one fan begged: “Let me know at least we’ll be able to watch all the episodes in the archive somewhere or the YouTube channel.”
And another wrote: “So sad it’s over but thank you for all the hard work the production team has put in over the past 37 years. You have brought joy to millions around the world. world. You’ll be missed.”
Yesterday, the Channel 5 boss confirmed the show would end, announcing in a statement: “Neighbours will no longer air on Channel 5 after this summer. It’s a much-loved part of the schedule. for over a decade, and we’d like to thank the cast, Fremantle, and all of the production team for their amazing work on this iconic series.
“Of course, we also want to thank the fans for their loyal support of Neighborhood throughout the years.”
They added: “We recognize there will be disappointment over this decision, however, our current focus is on increasing our investment in the original UK drama, which has the power strong appeal to viewers.”
And sources have confirmed that Freemantle Media has been working tirelessly to find a new home for the show, but sadly no one is interested in joining.
The soap has kicked off the careers of some of Australia’s biggest stars, including Kylie Minogue, Jason Donovan and Holly Valance.
