Neil Patrick Harris never said that Doogie Howser was canceled

In 2022, Harris sat down with GQ to reminisce about his most famous characters. On that list, of course, was his breakout TV personality Doogie Howser. Harris, who admits that he likes to “pee on his own,” casually describes the character as a “smart pants doctor.”

Despite Harris’s self-deprecating tendencies, Doogie Howser holds a special place in the hearts of so many ’90s kids who grew up watching his teenage struggles. For those of us who watched the series in the mid to late ’90s, it felt like there were a lot of “Doogie Howser, MD” episodes, so you might be surprised to learn it only lasted four seasons. “It’s on TV at the time that the distribution starts happening when you run four seasons,” Harris explains. “So I think more people feel that it’s been running for a decade.”
