Netflix is ​​lifting potential restrictions on password sharing

Netflix has removed a number of policies aimed at cracking down on password sharing after they were erroneously posted on its Help Center pages.

The streaming service has been looking at ways to reduce the practice of Netflix Users share their passwords outside of their household and have piloted policies in Chile, Peru, and Costa Rica.

As a result, people shared this online, assuming that Netflix would bring this to its service worldwide very soon.

This prompted some backlash as people threatened to cancel their subscriptions.

The guard reported that Netflix responded: “Yesterday, a Help Center article with information specific to Chile, Costa Rica, and Peru went live in other countries for a short time. Since then we have updated it.”

Although Netflix has yet to announce its plans for global account sharing, the study is the best indication of what a global approach might look like.

When might Netflix take action against password sharing?

Netflix has claimed that sharing accounts “undermines our long-term ability to invest in and improve ourselves Netflix“.

There have been attempts at “paid sharing,” in which an account holder pays for an additional person away from the account holder’s home to access the service.
