Netflix survival drama series Squid Game swept the nation when it debuted on the streaming service almost two years ago, focusing on the plight of 456 gamers trying to rid themselves of financial woes by fighting a series of deadly… children played games. The show did exceptionally well, garnering accolades from left and right, and was renewed for a second season.
Netflix wanted to capitalize on this even more and flirted with launching a reality show that real people would participate in for a chance at a big win. Squid Game: The Challenge is currently in development, and to no one’s surprise, it turns out that taking part in a reality TV show based on a rigged game isn’t the dream many were hoping for.
As reported by Vice, it seems that many of the contestants are unhappy and about to question the authenticity of this spin-off. Squid Game: The Challenge is filmed in England, although the weather is not exactly pleasant at this time of year. During the filming of Red Light, Green Light, the contestants began to feel uncomfortable with the freezing temperatures, although many tried to push through for a shot at the big cash prize.
This is just the tip of the iceberg, however, as more reports continue to show just how awful the experience was for players. Oddly strict regulations forcing players to remain silent, mics that work for some and don’t work for others, and a wildly inconsistent ruleset: Netflix’s Rigged Games is looking worse and worse as many hoped this would be their chance to achieve greatness only to find out how unfair a game show can be.
