Brit was warned of a new one Covid symptom Appearing amid a new wave of cases spreading across the UK.
covid Experts report a new dominant symptom that is more common than loss of taste or smell.
Two thirds of all Covid sufferers now complain of a sore throat. professor Tim Spector, co-founder of the Covid Symptom Study app, told The Independent: “It looks like we are at the beginning of the next wave and this time older people are being affected a little earlier than the last wave. Many people are still using state guidelines on symptoms that are wrong.
“Right now, Covid starts with a sore throat in two-thirds of people. Fever and loss of smell are really rare now – so many old people may not believe they have Covid. They would say it’s a cold and not get tested.”
He added: With rates rising, particularly in the vulnerable elderly age groups, the impact on hospitalizations could be greater. However, the youngest age group is showing possible early signs of a slowdown in case numbers. Children tend to be at the forefront of infection trends. So if this continues next week it is possible that the Covid wave is not as bad as previously predicted.
UK Covid cases on the rise
It comes after new figures from last week showed Covid-19 infections continued to rise in England and Wales.
The surge means the UK’s overall number of infections has also risen, although the trend in Scotland and Northern Ireland is unclear.
About 1.1million people in homes across the UK are likely positive in the latest survey, which covers the seven days to September 17 in England and the week to September 20 in the other three countries, according to the Office tested for coronavirus National Statistics (ONS).
It is the first time since late August that the UK total has exceeded one million, although it is still well below the 3.8 million weekly infections in early July at the peak of the Omicron BA.4 and BA-caused wave. 5 subvariants of the virus.
The numbers come as the number of people in hospital with Covid-19 also continues to rise.
