New October rail strike date set by RMT

It has been announced that Saturday October 8th will be 40,000 RMT Employees at Network Rail and 15 rail operators plan to exit.

This is added rail strikes planned by the train drivers’ union Aslef scheduled for Saturday October 1st and Wednesday October 5th.

Despite the announcement of a new strike date RMT General Secretary Mick Lynch was pleased that the new transport minister, Anne-Marie Trevelyan, had met the union.

He said: “We welcome this more positive approach by the government to working with us as a first step to find an appropriate solution.

“However, in the absence of a new offer, our members have no choice but to continue this strike action.

“We will continue to negotiate in good faith, but employers and the government must understand that our industrial campaign will continue for as long as it takes.”

This announcement of another rail strike is just one more of the few that have taken place throughout the summer and are now heading into the fall.
