New Starfield Developer Diary includes companions, factions, dialogue system and more
Bethesda Game Studios has released a new developer diary for Starfield in which game director Todd Howard and other members of the development team discuss how they’re approaching the studio’s upcoming RPG title.
In the video, Howard features design director Emil Pagliarulo, lead mission designer Will Shen, and lead artist Istvan Pely. The group discusses how the companions have improved and how you will be joined by a companion robot called VASCO, which will make comments about what you are watching or what just happened. .
The group also discusses the different factions in the game and how you can join any of your favorite factions. You can even join multiple factions and this includes the bad guys.
Interacting with these factions and other NPCs will take up a page in the dialogue system from The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion. According to Shen, the team didn’t intentionally copy the old Oblivion system, but as Howard notes, this particular dialogue system is “certainly one of the most successful” the studio has had in a game.
Character rendering is also mentioned in the video, with Howard saying it will be a more detailed feature than previous games. You will be able to choose your character traits and background.
If you’re interested in Starfield, you’ll want to check out the developer’s video.
Starfield arrives exclusively on Xbox Series X/S and PC on November 11, and you’ll be able to play it on day one with Xbox Game Pass.
