New world players respond to 40v40 war changes, citing war availability, and more

In a post on the New World Forum, the developers broke down their reasoning behind one of the biggest current changes on the New World PTR: 40v40 War. However, the player base pushed back on this, citing performance issues and more.

The forum post (first discovered by MassentlyOP) lays out the reasoning behind the war tweak testing, although the development team emphasizes that this is still experimental in nature. Currently, in live game the fights are 50v50 in nature, seeing 100 players smash each other for control of the fortress and in other words the area the fort is located in. However, on PTR, the most recent patch notes show that the wars are currently 40v 40, with the developer working hard to make the content less chaotic and more tactical.

Developer Zin_Ramu on the forum shared that the team is actually testing two changes at once: a reduction in player numbers as well as a change to the way defenders appear for the duration of the war.

The first change was because the dev team was looking for a way to make it easier to coordinate New world Corporate leaders, let’s make the actual battle less chaotic and more tactical, etc. An added bonus to this would be the ability to improve performance with fewer participants.

Another change means allow to change the probability of winning. Right now, defenders can respawn at captured points, making it hard for attackers to knock their enemies back. Testing going on right now on PTR will hopefully help lift the attacker/defender win ratio to something a little more balanced. According to New world team, defenders currently win around 80% of all fights, and the team would like to see that number closer to a 60% win rate. Through this change, Amazon hopes that they will see defenders more easily destroyed, and coordinated attackers see the siege move into the fortress itself more often.

However, it seems that players are not interested in this change for one main fundamental reason: it is already difficult to get into a fight, dropping 20 more slots could simply make it harder.

Currently, the war in New world being limited to even 50 people means that, even in larger companies, players are chosen based on who is famous, who can help win, etc – making many players stay no never had a chance to experience the war. By eliminating 20 people, many respondents on the forums indicated that it would be harder to get selected.

Other players expect wars to be faction locked to ensure that those involved in the war are the ones with the stake (offensive or defensive side). Many commenters also mentioned that one of the major problems still pervading on the battlefield is not so much a lack of tactics, but a lack of solid effectiveness. Latency, rubber bands and disconnects still cause wars on their own.

In a post earlier today in response to suggestions, Zin said that the team is pausing testing 40v40 wars, instead focusing more on the change that comes along while they work. work to ensure that more people can join the fight. “
