Newcastle Eagles’ Corey Johnson Counts Down To Gamble

Newcastle Eagles star Corey Johnson has revealed his basketball inspiration is Chicago Bulls icon Michael Jordan after watching the highlights of the six-time NBA champion on VHS tape.

Johnson showed how he prepares for every game day as the Eagles look to defend their British Basketball League championship in 2021-22. The keeper is averaging 14.3 points per game with the Eagles currently in fifth place.

The 25-year-old expressed gratitude towards his parents while claiming that he was inspired by Jordan growing up.

“We used to have stacks and stacks and rows on shelves of important Michael Jordan moments! His iconic games are all there, so I’m going to watch those games over and over again,” Johnson said in a video produced by Vertu Motors. “My parents both grew up playing football in Canada and they both coached me.

“I grew up around it, we are a basketball family so I have always been a part of the sport. I have a lot to thank them for.”

The Canadian joined the Eagles from Leicester Riders before the season even started, and Johnson likened his stay at Newcastle to college. He believes the return of fans has shown the importance of spectators in sport – as well as the benefits of being the home team.

Johnson added: “You don’t really know how important a fan atmosphere is until you don’t have it. “After playing a full season without fans and in empty stadiums, it’s great to have the crowds come back just to give you the energy and atmosphere we all have. missed.”

In the video, Johnson is seen discussing the importance of preparing well before a game, both physically and mentally. He believes nutrition and mobility are two of the biggest factors to focus on to ensure he stays in the best possible shape.

“I’m pretty familiar with what I eat, if you don’t have a constant appetite and you don’t get it right, then of course that shows up on the field and it shows up in your game as well,” Johnson said.

“I really have flat feet and my ankles grow. I do certain exercises with straps and movers for my hips, feet, and ankles. I listen to my body so if I’m feeling good I don’t do much but If I feel like I have to work on certain areas before a game I will do my best to let everything go. alright. ”

Johnson is a firm believer that the mental aspect of sport is something that has been overlooked in the past and he has ensured that he stays in the right mental state by getting a mentor. put him in meditation and breathing exercises.

“If I get nervous right before the game, I do a few box breathing exercises to reset my mind and focus on the moment,” Johnson said. “I don’t want to get too worried about anything else going on and just fully invest at this point.”

The fact that Johnson – who is shooting at an impressive 40.7% from three-point range this season – chooses Jordan as his basketball idol is no surprise. Jordan is a six-time champion and six-time MVP in the finals, as well as a five-time MVP and 14-time NBA All-Star.

The 59-year-old man – the face of the Jordan brand and the star of Space Jam – was recently honored during the NBA’s All-Star break as one of the 75 greatest players in league history, as the current season marks the 75th anniversary of the NBA.
