Newcastle vs Manchester City LIVE: Latest Premier League scores and goals as Miguel Almiron equalizes

Guardiola does not confirm plans to rest players ahead of the World Cup

Follow live updates as Newcastle host Manchester City in the Premier League this afternoon as Pep Guardiola’s side look to extend their successful start to the season. The champions have started with impressive victories over West Ham and Bournemouth, scoring six goals without reply. Erling Haaland has hit the bull’s eye on his Premier League debut but was rejected in last weekend’s 4-0 win over Bournemouth. Therefore, he will try to set another milestone at the beginning of his City career.

City meet a confident and optimistic side from Newcastle, whose season under Eddie Howe started with a home win over Nottingham Forest and a draw at Brighton. Nick Pope was key in extending his unbeaten start in the 0-0 draw at the South Coast and the keeper faces another busy afternoon against City, who will be looking to keep up with Arsenal and join Mikel Arteta’s side at the top of the table in doing so three out of three wins.

Follow live updates of Newcastle v Manchester City below after Leeds v Cheslea result:

32′ – Newcastle 1-1 Manchester City

Man City look a bit shocked at the moment – they can’t handle Newcastle’s speed in attack from the flanks. They can cause a lot of trouble for the Magpies themselves though – Foden almost comes in on the left until Guimaraes comes in to block and clear.

Rodrigo is fed up with Saint-Maximin dribbling past everyone and produces a very cynical knuckle rake. He’s a little lucky escaping a yellow there.

GATE! 28′ – Newcastle 1-1 Manchester City

The gate is standing!! One repeat suffices – Almiron was never caught offside on a Saint-Maximin cross and the unmarked attacker, touching the ball with his thigh, fell past Ederson to make it 1-1.

Fully deserved after their reaction to being behind.

Saint-Maximin excellent in playmaking.

27′ Newcastle 0-1 Manchester City

Another half chance for Newcastle as Botman’s header reaches Wilson from a corner but his snap goes into the ground and is saved. The offside flag goes up against him too.

Moments later, Almiron flies in and pools the ball into the back net – there’s a tremendous cheer, but it’s cut short when the offside flag goes up!

26′ Newcastle 0-1 Manchester City

Newcastle are really pushing for an equalizer here. Ederson is called on to parry a blow, Saint-Maximin fires in an attempt after Dias’ lax pass is cut out. The home crowd roared in response to urge his team to continue the half-attack.

Joelinton regains possession again and Wilson curls a shot – deflected wide.

22′ Newcastle 0-1 Manchester City

Yellow card for Cancelo somewhere on the track there. Nick Pope has to take another free-kick from De Bruyne.

Just down the other end Newcastle come back behind Walker and Almiron crosses low this time to Wilson – he can’t quite reach the end and Cancelo is there to clear.

Early forced substitution for Guardiola: Nathan Ake leaves the field, Ruben Dias comes on for him.

18′ Newcastle 0-1 Manchester City

What a tremendous opportunity for Almiron. Joelinton and Saint-Maximin to brilliantly create space and the latter cuts it back for Almiron… who sits back and blasts his shot miles off target.

Some joy from the crosses for the magpies but they need to make the most of those chances.

16′ Newcastle 0-1 Manchester City

Joelinton clatters Gundogan – the City captain wreaks havoc at this early stage.

No warning this time but another set piece for the visitors who at the moment look like they’re slicing Newcastle open with every attack.

The free-kick is well defended, but Foden has a shot shortly after, which is again saved by Pope and his feet.

12′ Newcastle 0-1 Manchester City

Haaland frees De Bruyne and it looks very much like he could step through to double the lead – but a touch is easily unpredictable and his shot is therefore clumsy. Pope saves with his feet and Newcastle escapes.

Gundogan then almost hits Haaland but his attempted shot goes wide.

9′ Newcastle 0-1 Manchester City

Guimaraes fouls De Bruyne as the Belgian leaps past him in midfield and it’s an early yellow card for the Newcastle midfielder. Pretty justified, never caught the ball.

City quickly gets into their rhythm here, spreading the game wide to create angles at every opportunity.

Incidentally, that was the first goal Newcastle have conceded this season.

GATE! 5′ Newcastle 0-1 Manchester City

All too easy for City! Rodri shoots from range just after Haaland almost got brought in on the left inside channel. But minutes later Bernardo swings over a cross from the right and Gundogan is completely unmarked and controls on his right foot before finishing with a left hand pop to make it 1-0.
