Newhaven fire: emergency services respond to allotments

Videos show orange smoke billowing into the sky and flames billowing over the hedges of East Side allotments in Newhaven last night.

Lauren Dobson, who was on site, said: “I was at my friend’s house who lives in Newhaven and we could see the fire out the window.

“I quickly pulled out my phone and started recording it. We then drove behind B&Q down McKinlay Way which is where we thought it was coming from based on the view out the window.

“My friend got out of the car and ran across the grass banks and they could see the fire department and the piles of smoke.

“I think there were others there that helped erase it.

“It is so sad.”

The flames could be seen across the city around 5:30 p.m. Sunday.

East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service has been asked for comment.
