An NHS worker has been jailed after taking 9g of cocaine to a music festival on her weekend off.

Courtney Healey was found with cocaine at the Creamfields music festival.

She had traveled over 200 miles from Wales to keep a weekend off from her job as a health worker in the NHS.

The 21-year-old was found with 8.9 grams of cocaine when her tent was searched at the festival.

Healey claimed she was taking the drugs for her friends, but text messages revealed she was smuggling in the Class A drugs for a man who was already at the festival and had offered to pay her £200 for it.

Prosecutor Richard Edwards said, “Several messages included Healey asking her friends in a group chat how they were taking their drugs.”

One person replied, “Oh my god I’m scared of that, you’re all smackheads.”

In another message about marijuana, Healey said, “I smoke it every day. I feel like I might rip someone’s head off otherwise.

“My mom would actually send me to jail if she found out I did it.”

Mr Edwards said there was ample opportunity to donate drugs at the festival, with amnesty jars and posters warning festival-goers of the consequences of being found with illegal substances.

She has been in prison for three years

The court heard Healey, from Maesteg in South Wales, has no criminal record.

Bernice Campbell said defensively, “This is a young woman who ruined her life.”

Ms Campbell described Healey as having a “devil-may-care” attitude towards drugs but said she was going through a “low point” in her life at the time.

She said it was a “horrible, horrible” shame for Healey and that she was just a “facilitator” rather than taking care of the drug follow-up.

The court heard how Healey has now lost “a promising career” as a health worker in the NHS.

Healey hung her head when she was sentenced

She pleaded guilty to possession of cocaine with intent to deliver at Chester Crown Court.

Judge Steven Everett sentenced her to three years in prison, saying, “Yes, she can hang her head. That’s not a naive young woman, is it?

“It shows that she’s completely wrapped up in the drug culture and very indifferent to it.”

“You can’t be both – a healthcare worker and someone involved in the delivery of horrific Class A drugs. And you chose the latter.”
