Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds has become the latest musical to cancel performances in Russia following the invasion of Ukraine.
His band was scheduled to give concerts at the Bol Festival in Moscow and Kyiv’s Sports Palace in the summer.
However, a statement posted on the band’s social media accounts said concerts had been canceled “due to current events”.
It continued: “Our thoughts and love are with the brave people of Ukraine, their heroic leader, and all those who are suffering because of this senseless war.
“Ukraine, we stand with you, and with all those in Russia who oppose this atrocity, and we pray that this madness will soon end.”
Cave, known for hits like Into My Arms and One More Time With Feeling, joins artists including former One Direction star Louis Tomlinson and American rock band Green Day for a gig in Russia because of the conflict.
Announcing the contract cancellation on Monday, Tomlinson said: “The safety of the fans is my top priority and my thoughts go out to the people of Ukraine and all those who are enduring the war. this is necessary.”
The cave praises Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and the Ukrainian people until a Russian military convoy about 40 miles long is north of the Ukrainian capital.
And on Monday, Mr. Zelensky signed an application to join the European Union.
