NICK Cave has revealed a close relationship with the parents of a Love Island contestant.
The singer, who lived in Brighton for many years, has detailed how Love Island star Luca Bish’s parents were there for him and his wife Susie Bick after the death of their son Arthur.
In 2015, Nick’s son Arthur, 15, was using hallucinogenic drugs before tripping off the cliffs at Ovingdean and falling 60ft.
He was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital but later died.
Now, in a Q&A response on his blogging site The Red Hand Files, the 64-year-old wrote a letter detailing how Luca’s parents Maria and Michael were there for him and Susie during this horrible time.
When asked what the biggest difference is between him and his wife, Nick replied: “Right now the key difference between Susie and me is that she watches Love Island and I don’t.”
“Susie is watching Love Island because we know one of the contestants, Luca. Luca was a school friend of our twins Arthur and Earl.
“As a result, Susie and I became friends with Luca’s parents, Maria and Michael. Maria is an antiques dealer. Michael is a fishmonger. Luca is also a fishmonger.
“After Arthur’s death, in the early days of that horrific, chaotic first week, Maria showed up at our door with a tray of lasagne and essentially looked after us.
“She hardly said anything to us. She made us cups of tea. She cooked for us. She was just there.
“She was the only constant in a time of terror and confusion, when countless desperate and compassionate people came and went. We will never forget their kindness.
“Even in the first week, when the world suddenly and shockingly seemed filled with an unspeakable and distorting cruelty, Maria reminded us that there is good in the world.
“It was also a lesson in dealing with grieving people – you don’t have to say anything, you just have to do something; make them a cup of tea, cook them dinner.
“To this day Michael brings fresh fish to our house, brings it over and leaves without a word. He pretends to charge us for it, but we know he doesn’t.
“These people, Luca’s parents, are as good as it gets and they love their son Luca.
“So Susie looks at Love Island and cheers for him and hopes he wins. I also hope Luca wins, and soon, because then I can get the damn TV back.”
In May this year, Nick’s son Jethro Lazenby, whom he shared with Australian model Beau Lazenby, died at the age of 31.
The musician is also the father of sons Luke and Earl.
