Nick Knowles to star in Nestle Shreddies commercial in 2021

Nick Knowles is tipped to return to DIY SOS after he was replaced on the show last year.

The 59-year-old has left the hit BBC show after he appeared in an advertising campaign for Shreddies cereal, which breached the broadcaster’s strict advertising rules.

The ad depicts Nick playing on his DIY SOS character as a builder who builds Shreddies into his hard hat.

Following the Shreddies commercial, Nick was replaced on his DIY SOS hosting assignment by comedian Rhod Gilbert.

The popular presenter pulled out of the show in November and missed hosting a special for Kids in Need of DIY SOS in 2021.

However, after discussion with the BBC, it was agreed that Nick would leave the show until the campaign was over.

He’s currently returning for the current season of DIY SOS, which hits theaters next week.

After quitting his job at DIY SOS, Nick worked on Channel 5’s Big House Clear Out, which saw the DIY expert and his team renovate messy homes.

The presenter was recently left in tears during an episode of the Channel 5 show when he was tasked with renovating the home of Sarah, whose veteran husband Trevor died aged 55, leaving a living legacy behind. Remains are military memorabilia.

Sarah struggled to stay at the top of Trevor’s collection but couldn’t part with items that clearly meant a lot to her late husband.

But on the show Nick told her that, with her consent, they had arranged for the charity Forgotten Veterans UK to store the items, leaving the presenter in tears.

Sarah lost her 21-year-old husband last March when the former soldier suffered a fatal heart attack in Dubai.

The loss was compounded by Sarah, who lives in the Middle East, only having 30 days for her to pack up and leave the country.

Her return home leads to a move to her daughter’s home, which is filled with stuff piled high, leaving Sarah locked in grief surrounded by Trevor’s possessions.

Nick explained to Sarah, “I promise you. You do the hard work, get over the emotion of getting rid of half of your stuff, and you’ll have a great home.”

In the emotional scenes, Nick explains the charity’s offer as he adds: “For Trevor, that’s really important, isn’t it?”

A representative for the charity later explained: “With your permission, we would love to have a photo of your husband and some history of his service career. So when these Vulnerable veterans come through, they can really look to your husband as an inspiration to move on in life.”
