Nicki Minaj has shared her two pence on the explosive row between Chris Rock and Will Smith that overshadowed Sunday night’s Oscars.
Live and star-studded studio audiences and viewers at home were left stunned when Will, 53, took to the stage during Sunday night’s ceremony to punch Chris, 57, in the face after the comedian made a joke about it Jada Pinkett-Smith’s hair.
It’s unclear if Chris didn’t know 50-year-old Jada had alopecia when he joked that she looked like ‘GI Jane’ – but the joke prompted Will to spring into action and defend her honor quite fiercely.
Now, 39-year-old rap sensation Nicki has shared her take on the incident – she said she admires Chris’ humor but thinks Will was right to smack him when he stood up for Jada.
The Starships singer tweeted: “I love Chris Rock. I don’t think he would have made that joke if he knew what Jada recently shared – but between him and the entire team @ the #Oscars, you want to tell me that none of you have heard that this woman just this heartbreaking story told ? #ComeOnSon
“Here’s the thing… And this is such an AMAZING – EYE OPENING example of it…
“The husband gets a front row seat to his wife’s pain… he’s the only one to comfort her… and dry her tears behind closed doors when those cameras go off.

“Social media have ppl [people] feel that these “husbands” will never meet them in real life.
“You just have to experience in real time what’s going on in a man’s soul when he looks over at the woman he loves and sees her holding back tears because she made a ‘little joke’ at her expense.
“It’s what every real man feels in that moment. While you all see the joke, he sees her pain.
“Imagine what it must feel like when you lose your hair so much that you have to shave it bare.
“Do you think this is easy for everyone to handle? Don’t you think that’s why she cried a lot? In 2022 you must see these men for the jokes you made about their wives.”
Jada previously opened up about her decision to shave her head after realizing her hair was falling out due to her alopecia.
Sharing footage of her then-freshly shaved head in December, she said in an Instagram video post, “Now I can only laugh at this point. Now you will know that I struggle with alopecia. And just all of a sudden one day…
“Look at that line right here. Look at that. Mom will put some rhinestones in it and I’ll just make myself a little crown.”
Back in 2018, she previously revealed that she had the autoimmune disease back in 2018, and has previously spoken out about shaving her hair off.
She said on an episode of her Red Table talk show, “For me, it was a mix of a spiritual calling and saying, ‘Eventually your hairline will be back here… so we might as well do it now’.”
Meanwhile, reports have suggested that Chris’ quip about Jada’s hair wasn’t pre-approved and was thrown into the ceremony at the last minute, unbeknownst to the organizers of the joke beforehand.
A source told Us Weekly that Chris initially rehearsed his speech with no mention of Jada – with the insider claiming, “Will wasn’t present for.” [the] Sample.”
