Loose women: Nicola Adams and Ella Baig discuss IVF . battle

Olympic icon Nicola Adams and pregnant girlfriend Ella Baig have shared their IVF battle – and shared details of their unique gender reveal party.

The 39-year-old boxer and historical contestant on the serious choreography team has been dating 24-year-old blogger Ella since 2018 and they are set to be parents together.

Ella was thinking about IVF so she could get pregnant and is carrying a baby boy – a baby conceived in one of Nicola’s eggs that she frozen when she was 30.

The moms-to-be became guests on Monday’s Loose Women as they shared about their IVF journey and explained how they shared the news that they were expecting a baby boy.

Speaking on the show, Ella shared about her challenging IVF journey.

“It’s been a few years,” she said. That’s right, we went through three cycles of IVF. We had one failure, one miscarriage and then a baby.

“I’m in my second trimester now, so it’s been a bit rough. Unfortunately, I had very, very bad morning sickness. ”

Nicola admitted it was tough watching Ella battle morning sickness while supporting her, explaining: “It was funny smells and she was sick.”

Asked if she was worried that something might happen after their previous miscarriage, Nicola said: “I’m really worried.

“I kept asking her ‘Are you sure you want to try again? It might be too early. ‘ So I was really nervous during the first trimester, but luckily everything turned out well.”

The women then reveal that they are expecting a boy.

When asked if they would hold a gender reveal party, they explained that they did – with the women using pink and blue paint to create a giant canvas before adding every other color imaginable on their picture.

Once painted, the women peel off sections of the canvas to reveal the statement: “It’s a boy!”

Ella opened up about the planning process for their reveal event.

She said: “We were a bit hesitant about making one because it was quite controversial, especially in the LGBTQ+ community. But we decided to use it as an excuse to raise awareness of gender stereotypes.

“We revealed our gender and started with pink and blue, then removed that and revealed we were having a boy.”

They also discussed that they decided to use one of Nicola’s eggs to conceive their child with a sperm donor because the sports star had frozen a batch of her eggs in her 30s.

She explained: “Yes. I was recommended [freeze my eggs].

“I didn’t realize how IVF was seen outside of sports. I support every woman in every business and career. I just think a lot of people just do it so they can focus on their work.”

They also explain that Ella has always wanted to hold her baby so she’s the one who got pregnant – while she hopes having her youth by her side will make it easier to get in shape after giving birth.

She laughed: “Hopefully I’ll be back!”
