Nicola Hughes says ‘lots of tears’ about becoming a new mum

Nicola Hughes has been open about adjusting to life as a new mother and how she chose to get through labor without any pain relief.

The former Made in Chelsea star recently brought newborn Penelope home from the hospital and has since confessed that she sometimes feels “helpless” with her baby’s digestive issues.

Nicola tells her 200,000 followers on Instagram that she would advise any expectant mother to have a natural birth, as she overcame the pain of childbirth without any medication.

“I was thinking in my head that I wanted to try a vaginal delivery,” she captioned a video of her labor.

“And then when it came and the first phase wasn’t too bad, I didn’t want any interference and then the second phase, I couldn’t sit still, I just didn’t want anyone to touch me. [and] the last thing I want is an epidural, etc.

She revealed the “final stage” was when her pain hit.

“By then it’s too late, you just need to refuel and I’m glad I did.”

She says the model is flying during her recovery.

“I really recommend it if you’re managing labor well but also taking pain medication if you need it, that’s why they’re there.

“I went into labor from about 11am to 5pm but I think if it had lasted any longer I might have wanted/need to intervene.”

However, baby Penelope is having problems with her digestive system, the star told fans.

“She’s the best thing in the world but it’s been really hard.

“Penelope is struggling with her digestive system. I can rarely burp so we just changed the formula which made her constipated so there were a lot of tears.

“From both of us,” she admitted.

“It’s heartbreaking to see your child sad and helpless, so I hope he settles down soon.

“Trying to balance work and motherhood is impossible so whatever content I put out, I need all the love I can get.

“Very jealous of people who get maternity leave.”

The former Made in Chelsea star has shared the news that Baby Penelope is “coming soon” in late October.

Fans flocked to watch a sweet snap as Charlie took hold of their daughter’s tiny hand.

“My heart,” she wrote in the caption, “Our little Penelope arrived early.”

Charlie shared the same snap on his Instagram with a loving tribute to Nicola: “It’s all thanks to your mom. Our little Penelope.”

The couple got married last August after five years together and Nicola announced her pregnancy five months later.

Nicola joined the cast of Made in Chelsea in 2015, when she was dating co-star Alex Mytton.

She left a year later after they split – and it was Alex who introduced her to Charlie.

The Dubliner is now a model and social media influencer who has praised how “so ordinary” her husband is.

“Charlie isn’t in the real world. He’s a very normal guy. He has a recruitment agency in the city. He’s a lovely guy,” she told the Daily Mail.
