Nicola Roberts admits she struggled to learn strict Christmas routine

Nicola Roberts has admitted “I hit myself” after initially struggling to learn her dance routine for the Serious Dance Christmas Special.

he, 37-year-old former Girls Aloud star, teamed up with Giovanni Pernice as one of six celebrities to battle the carnival version of the show.

Speaking ahead of the Christmas special, which will air on Christmas Day, Roberts said: “My process has been pretty slow.

“When you’re in a band, you have weeks to perfect a two-hour show, so there will be certain numbers that you pick up quickly or numbers that can take weeks to work out. Immersion, and that’s my process, that’s how I’ve learned over the years.

“Obviously, with Serious, you don’t have luxury time. It wasn’t until after the fourth session that I felt like we were in a good space.

“Before that I hit myself and didn’t understand the routine, didn’t grasp the technical aspects, and the position had not been there yet and had to think a lot so it was very fast but I like being professional and I like to did a good job, and i had a great time!

Speaking with professional partner Pernice, 32, the pair discussed the prospect of winning, Roberts said: “I haven’t seen anyone else’s dance but I think we’ve all come from those who have come from different backgrounds. different background.

“It’s hard to compete for a show like this, especially when everyone is so lovely, and it’s the Christmas special and it’s a little bit of fun.”

While Pernice, who won the 19th series of Serious Dance with actress Rose Ayling-Ellis, added: “I’m feeling competitive, I want to win! There are a lot of good dancers, too, and it’s going to be fun!”

Roberts also reflected on how her experience in Girls Aloud meant she was familiar with strict glitz and glamour.

She said, “Well, I spent a long time in a girl band, where I was a girl band for a long time, and then you walk out of that world and you learn to be the main character. I don’t need all of that.

“And now I’m back on the machine for just a few weeks, where I get to wear sparkly and sequined dresses and dress up as Santa’s helper, and I’ve said I want to have fun and things. That was interesting.”

Roberts will follow in the footsteps of Girls Aloud star Kimberley Walsh, who starred in the Serious Christmas special in 2017 alongside former serious pundit Pasha Kovalev.
