Nintendo’s Indie World recently put out a video compilation of the best selling indie games for 2021 (thanks Kotaku), and it has some real gems in it. While we don’t know the rankings for sure, the video features both familiar faces and new challengers.
The complete list in order of appearance is as follows:
- Cyber Shadow
- Open the package
- Tetris Effect: Connected
- Stick Fight: Games
- Curse of the Dead Gods
- Doki Doki Plus Literature Club!
- Spelunky 2
- Road 96
- Subnautica / Subnautica: Under Zero
- Less wood
- Islanders Console Edition
- Slime Rancher: Plortable Edition
- Axiom Verge 2
Some of these games are not surprising. Tetris Effect, Spelunky 2, and Subnautica are just some of the more recognizable names. But appearing with them are newer IPs like Unpacking, Ender Lilies and Eastward, all games that have had really good reviews but are still unproven entities in terms of sales so far.
Elsewhere on the list, Slime Rancher continues to be a phenomenon on Switch. People also seem interested in Axiom Verge 2 after the first game sold very well. The only game on the list with a bit of a headache is Stick Fight: The Game, a name that isn’t much of a hit among critics but still seems to sell like gangster movies, presumably from word of mouth. .
No matter how you analyze it, however, 2021 is going to be a very good year for those new to the Switch. And the latest Live Indie World also gave us some things to look forward to in the future, like the promising RPG Sea of stars and the brawl of River City Girls 2.
