A spiritual successor to Wii Sports, Nintendo Switch Sports lets players create and play with unique avatars. But that doesn’t mean Miis are going anywhere.
In Nintendo Switch Sports, players can create a Sports Mate, a detailed avatar that they can create and customize. But in the original Wii Sports, players could use Miis as their athletic counterparts. Well, in Nintendo Switch Sports they still can.
In the official Nintendo Switch Sports overview trailer, Nintendo detailed the process of creating a Sports Mate. But for the Miis fans, you can still use your custom avatar, although her head will be attached to a slightly more detailed body, as you can see in the image below.
You may want to create a Sports Mate.
Jokes aside, it’s nice that the upcoming Nintendo Switch Sports will have the option to use either a Sports Mate or a Mii avatar.
While not a direct sequel, Nintendo Switch Sports will bring various motion-controlled sports mini-games to the Switch. Nintendo will also add new sports games post-launch, with golf slated for fall 2022.
Wii Sports was a cult game of the Wii era and popularized Nintendo’s home system. Nintendo followed with Wii Sports Resort, which took advantage of the added accuracy of Wii Motion Plus for even more games. Check out our review for Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort here.
