Nintendo Switch Indie World Showcase May 2022: All announced

Nintendo has shared another installment of its Indie World Showcase with its fans, giving another glimpse into the future of indie gaming on the Switch. In this roughly 20-minute show, Nintendo shared updates on previously announced games and unveiled many new games to keep an eye on.

From the crustacean-themed soulslike in Another Crab’s Treasure, to a rhythm-based dungeon crawler in Soundfall, to the adorable world of Ooblets, there was a wide range of genres to be seen in the 15 games featured in this latest Indie World Showcase. To make sure you don’t miss a thing, we’ve rounded up all the announcements and trailers below so we hope you can find your next favorite indie game.

Ooblets and his adorable world is coming to Switch this summer

Ooblets was released in Early Access on Xbox and PC in July 2020, and Switch owners will soon be able to visit its delightful world when it releases on the platform in Summer 2022. In addition to breeding and training creatures called ooblets, players must also help Badgetown grow and thrive. Similar to Animal Crossing, Ooblets gives players the freedom to customize, craft, befriend your neighbors, and more. Oh, and you can participate in “epic dance battles” and who wouldn’t want that?

Save your planet in the “interplanetary action RPG” Batora: Lost Haven

Batora: Lost Haven is an “interplanetary action-RPG” that aims to mix the best parts of a hack-and-slash game with those of a twin-stick shooter. As 16-year-old girl Avril, players must use her powers to save her home planet after a catastrophic event changes everything.

This story-driven adventure will be coming to Switch in Fall 2022.

ElecHead is a game about bringing “light back to the world”.

Nama Takahashi prototyped the ElecHead as part of a school competition, and Switch owners will soon have a chance to try it out for themselves when it launches in summer 2022. As a small robot named Elec, players must “bring the light back to the world” through the use of electricity, which activates objects when Elec comes into contact with them. He can also toss his head to complete these challenges, but a 10-second shutdown timer ensures his mind and heart aren’t separated for too long.

Soundfall is a dungeon crawler with rhythm based musical gameplay

If you’ve ever wished your dungeon crawlers had a little more music in them, Soundfall is worth a look. This rhythm-based looter shooter dungeon crawler from Drastic Games and Noodlecake puts players in the shoes of a Guardian of Harmony who must defeat the forces of Discord. If you can keep to the beat, you become even more powerful, and more than 140 songs and up to four players in local and online multiplayer will keep things fresh for many playthroughs. The best part? It’s available later today.

Save the world from eternal frost in the tactical roguelike deck builder Wildfrost

Wildfrost is the latest entry in the deck building genre, adding tactical and roguelike elements while challenging players to stop an eternal freeze. In addition to standard card-based gameplay, players can customize and upgrade companion cards, build a central city, and more.

Wildfrost will be making its way to Switch this holiday season.

Totally Accurate Battle Simulator took the PC world by storm in 2019 when it let gamers in Predicting Game of Thrones battles You bet Steam was better than the Epic Games Store. The amount of customization is one of TABS’s strongest aspects, allowing you to create the war scenario of your dreams and watch it play out in hilarious ways.

Totally Accurate Battle Simulator will be fighting its way to the Switch this summer.

Gunbrella is a ‘noir punk’ side scroller featuring a deadly weapon usually reserved for the rain

Gunbrella puts everyone’s favorite rain deflector tool in the driver’s seat, as it will help players navigate their way through a “noir punk” world that could very well lose all of its natural resources if left unchecked. Players will be able to level up the titular Gunbrella and interact with a variety of characters.

Gunbrella is slated for a Nintendo Switch release in 2023.

We Are OFK tells the story of an up-and-coming band in Los Angeles

We Are OFK is a making-of-the-band journey that takes players through the ups and downs of trying to make a dream come true in Los Angeles. Starring Itsumi Saito and a fully voiced cast, this playable animated series launches this summer with new episodes releasing weekly.

Dive deep into a “harrowing ocean abyss” to solve puzzles in SILT

Spiral Circus and Fireshine Games will send players into a “shattering abyss of the ocean” to solve mind-bending puzzles in SILT, releasing in June 2022 for Switch. As players explore this underwater world, they can possess sea creatures, solve puzzles and interact while learning the many mysteries the ocean has to offer.

With mini highways you can solve the traffic problems of the world

Dinosaur Polo Club aims to empower its players to solve the world’s traffic problems in Mini Motorways. The main task of this game, which was first released on Apple Arcade in 2019, is to shape the streets of a city in a way that serves the interests of its citizens. While things may start out simple, highways and roundabouts and upgrades will keep players busy and tasked with keeping up with an ever-changing demand.

Mini Motorways will be available on Switch later today.

Become a journalist Casey Beaumaris and travel to a “strange flying hospital” in Wayward Strand

Wayward Strand lets players take on the role of teenage journalist Casey Beaumaris and travel to a ‘strange flying hospital’ filled with patients and their touching stories. In addition to learning more about those who are currently in the hospital, Beaumaris also needs to find out more about the place where she suddenly found herself.

Set in rural Australia in the 1970s, Wayward Strand features over a dozen characters to follow and you can choose which stories you want to unfold during a given playthrough. Experience this world for yourself when Wayward Strand comes to Switch on July 21, 2022.

Pay off your debts and become a possessed lamb in Cult of the Lamb

The action-adventure game Cult of the Lamb and its randomly generated world will be released on Switch later this year and will put players in the hooves of a possessed lamb who was “saved from annihilation by a foreboding stranger”. Throughout the game, players must repay their debts by building a community, conquering dangerous dungeons, building resources, and more.

Another crab’s treasure is a soulmate starring a hermit crab

Aggro Crab’s “Crustacean-themed Soulslike” Another Crab’s Treasure stars a hermit crab that must use over 50 different shells to overcome some of the most dangerous threats among the world’s polluted seas. Crab’s Treasure is coming to Switch in 2023.

Swing Through the Jungle Learn about the “battle of the living creatures” in Gibbon: Beyond the Trees

As a lost Gibbon, Gibbon: Beyond the Trees requires players to swing through a beautiful but dangerous jungle and learn more about the “battle of living beings around the world.” Broken Rules developers wanted to create an immersive game about real-world environmental issues, and Switch owners can try it out for themselves later today.

Nintendo Indie World Showcase showed a compilation of other upcoming games

While these games weren’t featured in their own segment, today’s Indie World Showcase featured a montage of some upcoming indie titles, including Card Shark, A Guidebook of Babel, OneShot: World Machine Edition, Cursed to Golf, and Idol Manager.
