North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un has sent a letter of congratulations to the Queen on her 70th jubilee.

Buckingham Palace confirmed the leader had sent the monarch a private letter in honor of her platinum jubilee, but officials kept quiet about the content.

“Kim Jong Un’s private message to Her Majesty The Queen on the occasion of her Platinum Jubilee falls in line with standard practice of receiving messages from countries with which we have diplomatic relations,” a palace spokesman said.

It’s not the first time the two have been in contact. In September 2021, the Queen sent well wishes to the North Korean leader in a message to mark the country’s National Day.

It read, “As the people of the DPRK celebrate their National Day, I send my good wishes for the future.”

The Queen has received messages from various heads of state and foreign dignitaries as four days of celebrations begin across Britain.

US President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden sent a video message wishing Her Majesty a “joyful platinum anniversary celebration.”

The US President added: “On behalf of the United States, congratulations to Queen Elizabeth II on an unprecedented 70 years of service to Britain and the Commonwealth, and thank you for your friendship with the American people.”

Former President Barack Obama praised the Queen for her “mercy and generosity”, while Frenchman Emmanuel Macron called the Queen a “golden thread” between Britain and France.

“Through these changes, your commitment to our alliance and friendship has remained and has helped build the trust that has brought freedom and prosperity to our continent,” he said.

On the 70th anniversary of the Queen’s coronation, Pope Francis sent “warm greetings and good wishes”.

He said: “On the joyful birthday of Her Majesty and as you celebrate this Platinum Jubilee year, I send warm greetings and well wishes, along with renewed assurances of my prayers that Almighty God extends to you, the members of The Royal Family and all people the nation blessings of unity, prosperity and peace.”

It’s unclear if Russian President Vladamir Putin will pay his respects in the face of his country’s ongoing invasion of Ukraine, which is being opposed by the UK and countries around the world. Putin’s spokesman said the government would announce its decision on whether to send a message to the monarch in the coming days.
