Plastics, a platform connecting manufacturers and recyclers to add value to recovered packaging and offset plastic waste with NFT certificates, has joined the Climate Collective. Powered by the carbon-neutral Celo protocol, the Collective is a growing coalition of organizations, advocates and projects dedicated to reversing the harmful effects of climate change through Web3 technology. After joining the collective, the Plastiks marketplace will bridge to the Celo blockchain.
Plastics will bring Celo a new breed of regenerative token asset – Plastic Recycling Guarantees – in addition to a vibrant NFT marketplace supporting a wide range of communities and use cases, including sports and entertainment. In particular, bridging to Celo’s carbon-neutral blockchain enhances the environmental benefits of plastics by helping to offset the carbon associated with its NFTs. Plastiks will also immediately start working with other like-minded members of the climate collective.
“Partnering with Celo is an important step for Plastiks that can help us meet our goal of increasing the commercial value of recycled plastic and ultimately reducing the amount of plastic waste entering the environment,” said Andre Vanyi Robin, Founder and CEO, Nozama. “Having access to Celo’s zero-carbon blockchain and sharing knowledge with the Climate Collective’s broad spectrum of green contributors will help us reach more businesses and innovate new ways to use NFTs in the pursuit of a sustainable future.” Join the NFT Creators Panel at Celo Connect, Celo’s first global conference, on April 1, 2022 in Barcelona, Spain.
Plastiks was launched in early 2022 as the world’s first utility NFT by Nozama, the London-based global sustainability technology company. Plastics is a pioneer in the fight against global plastic pollution and is promoting a much-needed increase in the amount of plastic being recovered for recycling. The Plastics Marketplace enables global recyclers to convert invoice data into NFTs.
Each NFT created uses data recorded on the blockchain to certify that an appropriate amount of plastic has been recovered, ensuring it does not end up in the environment. Plastic producers, consumers, and recyclers, as well as NFT collectors, can then buy and sell these NFTs. These transactions create an additional revenue stream for recyclers from already recovered plastic and provide an opportunity for manufacturers and users to make a meaningful investment in the recovery of Single Use Plastics (SUPs).
“We are excited to partner with Plastiks to drive adoption and usage of its platform across the Celo ecosystem by collaborating Plastiks NFTs with other Celo products,” the company said Nirvaan Ranganathan, Program Manager, Climate Collective. “As a mission-driven coalition, we support targeted collaborations between members of the climate collective and look forward to creating broader awareness of the impact of plastic.”
