The number of Ukrainians fleeing the war to neighboring countries has reached 1.5 million in ten days, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees said on Sunday.
“10 days. 1.5 million people. This is now the fastest growing refugee crisis since World War II. Millions more will be uprooted in the coming days if this senseless conflict is not ended immediately,” the agency said tweeted.
The majority of refugees have fled to neighboring countries Poland, Hungary, Romania, Slovakia and other European Union countries, as well as Moldova and Russia.
The EU last week agreed to give Ukrainians fleeing the war immediate protection, including immediate rights to live and work within the bloc, and also give them access to social benefits such as housing and medical care.
