A nurse has been arrested in connection with the unexpected death of a child at a Birmingham hospital.
Police were called to Birmingham Children’s Hospital following the tragic death of the infant on Thursday last week.
Her employer confirmed last night that the 27-year-old has been suspended from her job.
She was arrested on suspicion of administering poison with intent to endanger life.
An investigation has been launched after hospital staff contacted West Midlands Police following the death of the child.
The suspect was arrested at a home in the West Midlands later that evening.

A spokesman for the Birmingham Women’s and Children’s NHS Foundation Trust said: “Following the death of an infant in our pediatric intensive care unit at Birmingham Children’s Hospital, we have asked West Midlands Police to investigate what happened, in line with our own protection policy.
“The employee concerned has been suspended from the Trust after following the national procedure into the sudden unexpected death of a child.
“We support the infant’s family at this difficult time and ask that privacy be respected during this process.”

In a statement, West Midlands Police said: “We have arrested a 27-year-old woman in connection with the death of a child.
“Unfortunately, the child passed away in hospital on Thursday.
“The woman was arrested on Thursday night at a property in the West Midlands region on suspicion of administering poison with intent to endanger life.
“She has been released while the investigation continues and the results of the forensic tests are examined.
“The child’s family is being supported by specially trained officials.”
