A loyal NHS nurse who was fired after warning that an increased workload contributed to a patient’s death has been awarded a £462,000 payout.

Mum-of-two Linda Fairhall, 62, had an unblemished 40-year career while officiating at North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Trust.

A court upheld her wrongful dismissal claim, but the Trust appealed.

But a judge has blasted health chiefs, setting an alleged record bounty for lost pay and cures.

We shared in 2020 how Linda, who was battling cancer and lost her partner, raised concerns about patient safety in 2016.

Today Linda, from Billingham, Teesside, said she felt ‘validated’, adding: ‘I want other nurses to know you can speak up. The law protects you.”

On appeal, Judge James Tayler said the original tribunal “made a final decision.”

A spokesman said the Trust “continued to learn lessons and implement processes that drive positive change”.
